Beer of the Week: Avery Brewing Rumpkin

October is coming to a close and with it, so will the pumpkin beer reviews. I figure, if I’m going to to go out, might as well go out with a bang. So the week’s beer is the biggest pumpkin ale I could find. The Beer of the Week is Avery Brewing Company’s Rumpkin. Continue reading Beer of the Week: Avery Brewing Rumpkin

Beer of the Week: Lagunitas Our Own Bavarian-Style DoppelWeizen

With Oktoberfest all but over, I thought it fitting to feature a German-styled beer. But how would an modern American brewery known for hops handle a classic German style? The Beer of the Week is Lagunitas Our Own Bavarian-Style DoppelWeizen Continue reading Beer of the Week: Lagunitas Our Own Bavarian-Style DoppelWeizen

Beer of the Week – Shmaltz Brewing Co. & Terrapin Beer Co. A Beer For Hope Reunion Ale 2011

For the last weekend of August, I wanted something special. What’s more special than a collaboration by two of my favorite breweries and its done for a good cause as well? This week’s Beer of the Week is Shmaltz and Terrapin’s A Beer For Hope Reunion Ale 2011. Continue reading Beer of the Week – Shmaltz Brewing Co. & Terrapin Beer Co. A Beer For Hope Reunion Ale 2011

Beer of the Week: Bear Republic Extra Deluxe Tripels Alley

As August moves along, I’m continuing my focus on beers done two ways. This time, we’re looking at the ways a beer can be changed after the brewing, after the fermentation and during the conditioning stage. To do this I headed to bear Republic to try their newest release. While served on draft, this beer was also served as a blend and on cask. This week’s Beer of the Week is Bear Republic’s Extra Deluxe Tripels Alley. Continue reading Beer of the Week: Bear Republic Extra Deluxe Tripels Alley

Beer of the Week: Flying Dog and Brewer’s Art Table for Two

Writing this blog has introduced me to beers and breweries I would have never discovered otherwise. One of these breweries comes from Baltimore, where a friend of mine shipped me a selection of interesting, creative and well-made brews from a small brewery. When that brewery teamed up with another classic Maryland brewer, I knew I had to have the fruits of their union. This week’s Beer of the Week is Flying Dog and Brewer’s Art Table For Two. Continue reading Beer of the Week: Flying Dog and Brewer’s Art Table for Two

Beer of the Week: Lagunitas Lucky 13.alt

Big things are happening down in Petaluma. A new brewhouse and expanded bottling line are setting the stage for Lagunitas to move forward and grow into a brewery the size of Sierra Nevada. While I’ll have news on the brewery expansion on Monday, Saturdays are about beer. As I mourned the loss of a favorite summer release a couple weeks ago, this week Lagunitas’ substitute release has me smiling again. A reinterpretation n the Lucky 13 Imperial Red Ale, the newest beer from Lagunitas keeps the same spirit but this time goes blonde. The Beer of the Week is lagunitas Lucky 13.alt. Continue reading Beer of the Week: Lagunitas Lucky 13.alt

Beer of the Week: Stone IPA

The Beer of the Week doesn’t always have to be new, rare or something that’s experimental. Sometimes it’s just got to be a beer that’s good. This week, I chose a beer that many of us have had, but may not have tried in a while. Rated in the top 10 IPAs in the world by both Beer Advocate (#3) and RateBeer (#6), there’s no doubt that this beer still stands as a treat, and one you can find fairly regularly. This week’s Beer of the Week is Stone IPA. Continue reading Beer of the Week: Stone IPA

Beer of the Week: High Water Brewing Hop Riot IPA

When you know how to make great beer, chances are you’ll find a way to make it. When Steve Altimari found himself without a brewery, it was only a matter of time until his hoppy brews were passing through our lips again. While it’s been a little more than a year since we last saw his . . . → Read More: Beer of the Week: High Water Brewing Hop Riot IPA

Beer of the Week: Samuel Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed

Sometimes its good to sit down for a little craft beer education. Thankfully, this can be done at a bar with a pint in hand as opposed to in a classroom with a pencil. Do you know what individual hops taste like? With a sample pack of single hop beers, one could learn the basics in one drinking session with friends. That’s what is offered by this week’s Beer of the Week: Samuel Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed. Continue reading Beer of the Week: Samuel Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed

Beer of the Week: Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale

Lately, I’ve been posting a bit less on here than I would like. My Examiner.com page is getting some more attention, I’m posting at the Hop Press, and I’m also working my day job. So when news came across my path, I considered writing it as its own article then writing a Beer of the Week article to boost my posts. Just didn’t seem right. So this week’s Beer of the Week is Lagunitas’ Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale with a bit of an announcement to come at the end. Continue reading Beer of the Week: Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale
