Session #24 – A Tripel for a Two

For this episode of The Session, we’re taking on the topic of Belgian Tripels.  In the spirit of the coming Valentine’s Day, the idea is to share it with a loved one.  Here’s the what our gracious host over at Musings Over a Pint had to say:

Beer is best when it’s shared, and a strong beer is just right for sharing. Belgian Tripels are big beers with a flavor profile that is enjoyed by both experienced and new beer fans. Be it an intimate evening, or watching a ball game on TV, a Tripel is made for sipping and sharing. For Session #24 the theme is “A Tripel for Two.” What Tripel would you pick to share with that good friend, family member, or lover?

With that in mind, I convinced Jen that we should share a beer. So it was to the refrigerator we went.

Avast ye landlubbers!

What’s going on?

I be a Piraat and I’m takin’ o’er this…what be this thing anyways?

It’s a blog.

I be taking o’er this here blog! This be what ye goin’ to do.  I be puttin’ myself in a glass, and ye be drinkin’ from that glass and tellin’ me what ye think.  If ye don’t, keelhaul ye, and take the lass on a sea voyage back to me home.

Well….where…umm…where is home?

I come from Brouwerij Van Steenberge, in Belgium.  Now stop stallin’ before I make ye walk the plank.

But I’m supposed to drink a tripel, you’re a Belgian Strong Ale.  That’s the rules…

I BE MAKIN’ THE RULES!  Now get ta drinkin’ before I be placin’ a black spot on ya.

Wow, I can smell the banana from over here.  Hazy yellow with big bubbles of carbonation hugging the sides of the glass.  Almost looks like rising yeast clumps, but it’s not.  The banana is joined with spicy notes in the flavor with disappears in a peppery finish of alcohol.  While the alcohol is very strong, I wouldn’t guess this to be a 10.5% beer.  Very enjoyable.

And me beauty, what ye be thinkin’?

It smells really good.  Very tasty and easy to drink.  I would guess it was about 7 or 8%.  I like this a lot.

Aye, ’tis a tasty grog indeed.  Now, ye be gi’in’ me that booty on ye finger or I ye be meetin the sharp edge o’ me cutlass.

That’s it!  UNHAND HER!

I be in Davy’s grip for sure. I curse ye’, and ye’…blog, til the day ye’ die….

Nobody messes with my wife, or The Session.

  • Quite clever. Only, why no lego-grog/Strong Ale/Tripel swillin’? Don’t tell me they left the lego-growler on the cutting room floor?

  • Brian, you’ll have to wait for the Director’s Cut on DVD. They left out a lot of goodies that I felt really humanized the pirate, but in the end, didn’t test well with audiences.
