And the Winner is…

Not a whole lot to say in this post. It’s really a one sentence thing, but I need to stretch it out. All the background information was already written about. So who is the Beer Drinker of the Year?

Matt Venzke, 2008 Beer Drinker of the Year

Here’s his profile from Wynkoop’s website:

Matt Venzke, a Yorktown, Virginia aircraft maintenance manager and devout beer lover. Venzke has visited 454 breweries in 16 countries and 39 states, and logged 3,000 miles in 2007 visiting breweries.

His philosophy about beer: Small breweries are one of the few remaining vestiges of local uniqueness. Internationally, breweries reflect the local character, history and flavor. So to experience all the world has to offer, I’m consumed with visiting as many breweries as I can.”

His home beer bar is the Taphouse on Queensway in Hampton, VA.

I like this choice. He’s a committed beer drinker. The traveling and shear number of tastings blow my mind. He also wants to be cremated and have his ashes brewed into a batch served at his wake. That’s disgusting. Feel free to not invite me Matt.
