I think everyone likes receiving packages in the mail. It’s even better when those packages are full of beer. This time, it was beer and coffee. Not too bad.
KONA BREWING’S PIPELINE PORTER BLENDS BIG ISLAND FLAVORS FOR A TASTE AS BIG AS THE WAVES THAT INSPIRED IT
KAILUA-KONA, HI – September 4, 2008 – Surf’s up on the mainland, as Kona Brewing Company serves up its annual limited-release ale, Pipeline Porter. The award-winning beer is smooth and dark, with an earthy complexity from its blend of premium malted barley. The malt unites with freshly roasted 100% Kona coffee grown at Cornwell Estate Plantation, just a few miles from the Kona brewery on Hawaii’s Big Island. A delicate blend of hops rounds out the palate-pleasing brew and the infusion of coffee gives Pipeline Porter a unique roasted aroma and flavor.
In addition to Kona Brewing, Hawaii is home to the famed North Shore of Oahu, a seven mile stretch of coastline where big wave surfing was born. The Banzai Pipeline is a particularly revered surf break, serving up steep, curling waves with a rush that leaves surfers wide-eyed and grinning. Kona Brewing Company’s Pipeline Porter honors this mecca of surfing, with a beer that delivers a little kick and thrill of its own.
“Pipeline Porter tastes of rich, roasted barley malt and aromatic hops, and is as dark as Hawaiian black lava,” said Mattson Davis, Kona Brewing Company’s President and CEO. “It is the only beer made with 100% Kona coffee, found exclusively in Hawaii. This lends a smooth finish and helps you kick back after a hard day – whether its at the office, or on the water.”
Pipeline Porter is available on shelves and on tap from September 12 through March in 20 select mainland markets, eight of which are eagerly anticipating their first introduction to the limited release brew.
