Shelton Brother’s Dinner at the Monk’s Kettle

It’s a week of feasting around the United Staes, so what better way to kick things off than with an announcement of a beer paired dinner. San Francsco’s Monk’s KJettle will be hosting a beer-paired dinner with Shelton Brother’s Importers, featuring 7 beers and six courses sure to make any beer lover’s mouth water.

The Monk’s Kettle to Host Beer-Pairing Dinner with Shelton Brothers

On Wed December 2, 2009, the Monk’s Kettle will offer a six-course dinner designed to highlight seven beers from different regions.  Each dish was created to highlight the flavor profile of the beer featured for that course, as well as to pay homage to the region in which it is brewed.

The Monk’s Kettle will proudly host the craft beer importers, the Shelton Brothers, for the next beer-pairing dinner in its monthly program.  Each of the six courses was conceived by Executive Chef Kevin Kroger to underscore the flavor profiles of the beer featured, as well as the culinary tradition of the beer’s origin.

The evening will explore a wide range of beer styles, including a German Marzen (Weissenohe Monk’s Fest poured from a gravity keg), a dark, tart Farmhouse (Jolly Pumpkin Bam Noire poured from a gravity-poured cask), and an imperial stout (Mikkeller Santa’s Little Helper).  The dinner will also see an array of cuisine, including Mussels prepared in De Ranke XX Bitter served with hand-cut fries, lamb prepared two different ways (as a tartare, and in a stew), and a traditional Danish dessert called Chokladbollar.  The evening will end with a toast of a highly regarded Belgian Quadrupel, Pannepot from De Struisse Brewery.  Marie Davenport, San Francisco’s Shelton Brothers representative, will speak about each beer as they are being served; Monk?s Kettle’s Cicerone Sayre Piotrkowski will discuss the pairings and the creation of the courses.

The groundbreaking beer importers, the Shelton Brothers, are based out of Belchertown, Massachusetts.  A team of three brothers and a friend, the company was born from a passion for beer and the formidable discovery of Cantillon Brewery in Brussels, Belgium.  Their portfolio now consists of hundreds of the most highly regarded craft beers from thirteen countries.

The Monk’s Kettle hosts a beer-pairing dinner every month (usually the first Wednesday of the month, schedule permitting).  These dinners are five or six courses, designed to highlight the offerings of a brewery or beer region.  Past dinners have included San Diego’s Stone Brewing Co, Bay Area’s brewing cult figure Brian Hunt of Moonlight Brewing, and Orange County’s The Bruery.  The calendar is filled through next summer, with future events planned with Belgium’s Brasserie d’Achouffe, Portland Maine’s Allagash, and a New Year’s celebration featuring the beers of both the Belgian brewery Bosteels and the Netherlands’ Trappist brewery, Koningshoeven.

Update: The dinner will cost $100 and does not include tax or gratuity.
