Despite the sweltering heat around the Bay Area, autumn has arrived. Along with it, hearty, warming dinners are on the way. Be it soups, stews, or comforting traditional dishes, the eating season has begun. What goes better with these dishes than fresh baked bread to warm the house and kitchen. The Recipe of the Month if Pumpkin Beer Bread. Continue reading Recipe of the Month: Pumpkin Beer Bread

Recipe of the Month: Campfire IPA Bratwursts

August is a great month in California. In August our real summer begins and continues into September and October. The weather is amazing and it’s a great time to do all the things you’ve been telling yourself you’d like to do all summer. One of these activities that’s great in California in August is camping. This months’s Recipe of the Month is a fun camping recipe that can also be adapted for the home.  Continue reading Recipe of the Month: Campfire IPA Bratwursts

Recipe of the Month: Pale Ale Marinated Salmon

For July, you’re likely getting the grill ready for a big BBQ on the 4th. You’ll want to have something more than the standard burger and hot dogs on the grill, so this recipe will impress your friends and also be delicious with a beer that’s easily accessible to the less experience craft beer drinker. The recipe of the Month for July is Pale Ale Marinated Salmon.  Continue reading Recipe of the Month: Pale Ale Marinated Salmon

June has arrived. It’s a perfect month to head outdoors and enjoy the great weather and beautiful surroundings. For this month’s recipe, we’re going to focus on that type of activity and think of something simple and easy to take to the park, out on a hike or in your camping gear. Recipe of the Month: Spicy Seafood Chile Rellenos

A new feature I hope to bring to the readers here is a monthly recipe. The recipe may or may not contain beer but I will definitely pair the dish with a beer. These recipes will be seasonal and inspired by the calendar as well as the local selection. For the first Recipe of the Month, I’m stealing a recipe I saw on TV and adapted it for my own kitchen. This is a Spicy Seafood Relleno.  Continue reading Recipe of the Month: Spicy Seafood Chile Rellenos

Recipe for 2012: Burgers Al Pastor

Everyone has a resolution for the New Year. My resolution is to get people to eat more Burgers Al Pastor. How do I do that? I post the recipe here and a beer pairing and hopefully you folks like it. Continue reading Recipe for 2012: Burgers Al Pastor

Recipe: Apple Cider Roast

I love the cool months of autumn and winter in Northern California. I’m sure those of you in other parts of the country might laugh at that, especially when this last Friday saw the thermometer push 80 degrees. Either way, there is a distinct chill in the air by California standards at this time of the year and it gives us an excuse to do some cooking that takes a long time and warms the house. This recipe may be a bit more fall inspired, but still works as we prepare for Christmas.  Continue reading Recipe: Apple Cider Roast

The Session #51: The Great Online Beer & Cheese-Off

The Session runs every first Friday of the month. It’s not like someone picks a different date for it each month. Yet, for some reason, it seems to surprise me when it happens. Even when I’m planning for it, I miss it. I’ve become one of the people I make fun of, the people who are scrambling on Christmas eve as if December 25th was news to them. That said, this Session was one I really wanted to participate in as the topic was beer and cheese. Host Jay Brooks gave us three cheeses and challenged us to find what, in our opinion, the best pairing would be.  Continue reading The Session #51: The Great Online Beer & Cheese-Off

Mario’s Mardis Gras Gumbo

It’s time for Mardis Gras and it would be a shame if you didn’t have the right dish to nourish the soul before heading out for some real Fat Tuesday celebration. Try this gumbo recipe and see if you have a better pairing for stew or some tweaks to the recipe.  Continue reading Mario’s Mardis Gras Gumbo

In-Heat Wheat Crab and Corn Chowder (San Francisco Remix)

A couple weeks ago, I received a cookbook in the mail from Flying Dog Brewery in Maryland, Dog Chow. While flipping the pages, one recipe really jumped out as one I had to try. Part of it was the recipe, part of it was local pride. Continue reading In-Heat Wheat Crab and Corn Chowder (San Francisco Remix)
